Hans Hummel

Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts, als Hamburg noch keine zentrale Wasserversorgung hatte, war Hans Hummel, bürgerlicher Name Johann Wilhelm Bentz, einer der Wasserträger in Hamburg-Neustadt. Er gilt als Ursprung des Hamburger Grußes „Hummel, Hummel – Mors, Mors“.
Nach der Überlieferung wurde Bentz von Kindern immer wieder mit dem Spottnamen „Hummel, Hummel“ geneckt, worauf er mit „Mors, Mors“ antwortete, einer Kurzform von „klei di an'n mors“, der niederdeutschen Version des bekannten Zitates von Götz von Berlichingen bei Goethe.
